Gov. Beshear dedicates 10 new homes for tornado survivors in Mayfield

Governor Andy Beshear stopped in western Kentucky on Friday, May 10.

Beshear stopped in Mayfield where he joined leaders of His House Ministries and the Hope Initiative to dedicate 10 more new homes for families whose homes were destroyed in the 2021 tornadoes.

“We made a promise to be with Western Kentucky after the tornadoes, until every home and every life was rebuilt,” Governor Beshear said. “That’s a promise we are keeping with each new home dedication. Each of these homes provides a family who has lost so much the safety and opportunity they need to thrive.”

DAWSON SPRINGS SECURES $2 MILLION STATE GRANT FOR $4 MILLION INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority Backs Dawson Springs:

$2M Grant Fuels Industrial Building Construction

[Dawson Springs, Ky. May 3, 2024] – The City of Dawson Springs, on behalf of West Hopkins Industries Inc., was approved for $2 million in state support for a $4 million project. The community seeks to complete site readiness preparation and construct a 100,000-square-foot spec building. The grant comes from the Kentucky Product Development Initiative program. The matching funds will be provided from insurance funds received by Hopkins County following the destruction of a similar, smaller building during the December 2021 tornado.

The award was competitive and the site earned a high score as evaluated by an independent site consultant, citing an excellent location near I-69 and access to rail. The site is also fully served by all utilities. The $2,000,000 was approved by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority at its April 25, 2024, meeting. West Hopkins Industries has already received inquiries from companies nationally and internationally regarding the project since the approval.

“West Hopkins Industries and the City of Dawson Springs are ecstatic and grateful to have received this $2 million state grant to build a much-needed industrial building to locate a new business to provide critically needed jobs in our area.” said Jenny Sewell, Chair of West Hopkins Industries, and the Mayor of Dawson Springs. The City of Dawson Springs will serve as the fiscal agent on the project.
